As You Are is a peer-led workshop that incorporates discussion, reflection, and skill-building activities. It is not a lecture; it’s an experience guided by peer facilitators. Its core components focus on strengthening skills in these three areas.

Participants explore how to talk back to appearance pressures and focus on what matters most to strengthen their sense of worth beyond looks.
Participants learn practices focused on feeling grounded in their bodies and countering self-judgment with curiosity, care, and compassion.
Participants build leadership skills and community, taking steps together to create a world that values young people for who they are, not what they look like.
Workshops: from 1.5 - 4 hours

Educators, counselors, and mental health advocates learned about the As You Are program in a two-day professional development training. A follow-up training addressed implementation planning and strategies, followed by ongoing consultation and implementation support.
This format was co-designed during the COVID-19 pandemic with middle schoolers and a community-based organization. Delivered both remotely and in-person, the program shows significant improvements in self-regard, agency, and body acceptance among participants.
