We know children thrive when the adults in their lives are thriving too — that is why the Renée Crown Wellness Institute at the University of Colorado Boulder focuses on both. Our research, programs, and practices all grow from that abiding interconnection.
Since 2019, we have used a participatory design cycle that invites young people, parents, caregivers, educators, service providers, and researchers to sit at the table together. Side by side, they discover new knowledge about what supports wellness for young people and the adults who guide them.

A legacy of love.
Renée Crown, her love of children, and life of service inspire the mission of the Crown Institute. The mother of seven, grandmother of 27, great-grandmother of 24 (and counting), Mrs. Crown devotes her life to children.
In her honor, her daughter Dr. Patricia Crown established the Crown Institute with a vision to build a world where every young person thrives, supported by caring relationships and inner resources required for a lifetime of wellness.

That cycle of love between caregivers and children belongs to every generation. Children grow up and recognize the ways that they were shaped by the adults around them. In response, they feel called to nurture the young people who follow. And with that, the story begins again.
Dr. Crown’s gesture of honor and gratitude animates our work, every day.
