Veronica Derricks received her PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Michigan and is currently an Assistant Professor in the Psychology & Neuroscience Department at CU Boulder. Dr. Derricks’s research examines psychosocial factors that perpetuate disparities in healthcare and organizational settings. Within health contexts, she investigates whether and why health promotion efforts that aim to engage Black Americans (e.g., by targeting health messages based on racial identity) backfire. Using this knowledge, she develops and tests interventions that are designed to improve healthcare delivery and enhance health behavior uptake for Black individuals. In organizational settings, she explores how well-intentioned organizational efforts to recruit and retain Black employees may actually result in continued underrepresentation and identifies strategies to more effectively promote inclusion.
